# The Interface

> A tour of the LayerWise panel: the Home screen, the menu, progress and undo.

LayerWise lives in a single Photoshop panel that adapts to its size: docked and narrow, it shows one column; floating and wide, it spreads the wizards over two.

## Home

Every workflow starts here.

The Home screen

* **Your renders come from.** Pick the render engine: V-Ray, Corona or FStorm. This sets which element names and templates LayerWise uses, and it's remembered.
* **Create new document.** Build a new PSD from a template and your render output. See [Create new document](https://docs.pulze.io/layerwise/workflows/create-document.md).
* **Update renders.** Swap new renders into the open PSD, or merge region renders into it. See [Update renders](https://docs.pulze.io/layerwise/workflows/update-renders.md).
* **Tools, Templates and Elements.** Shortcuts to [Tools](https://docs.pulze.io/layerwise/tools.md), [Templates](https://docs.pulze.io/layerwise/templates.md) and [Render elements](https://docs.pulze.io/layerwise/render-elements.md), with a count for the current engine.
* **Getting started.** A short checklist for your first days. Items tick off as you do them; hide the list with ✕.

## The menu

The menu button in the header opens:

| Item | What it opens |
| - | - |
| **Templates** | Your templates, the built-in ones and your [cloud templates](https://docs.pulze.io/layerwise/cloud-templates.md) |
| **Render elements** | The [element list](https://docs.pulze.io/layerwise/render-elements.md) for each engine |
| **Settings** | [Layer, mask and account settings](https://docs.pulze.io/layerwise/settings.md), and About |
| **AI assistant** | [Connect Claude or another AI app](https://docs.pulze.io/layerwise/ai-assistant.md) |
| **Sign out** | Signs you out of your Pulze account |

Every screen has a back button at the top left, and its main actions sit at the bottom, always in reach.

## Wizards

Both workflows are step-by-step wizards with a step bar at the top. Nothing changes in Photoshop until you press the wizard's final button.

## Progress and cancelling

While a job runs, an overlay shows what LayerWise is doing, how far along it is, and a **Cancel** button. After a couple of seconds Photoshop also shows its own progress bar, where **Esc** cancels too.

A job in progress

Every change LayerWise makes appears in the History panel as a named step (for example *Replacing Reflection*), so **Ctrl+Z / Cmd+Z** undoes it step by step.

## Update banner

When a new version is out, a green banner appears under the header. **What's new** lists the changes, and ✕ hides the banner until the next version.

## Messages you may see

| Message | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **No document is open** | Open the PSD you want to work on first. |
| **No *engine* render elements in this document** | LayerWise found no smart objects named like render elements of the selected engine. Check the engine on Home. |
| **Photoshop is busy** | Finish what you're doing in Photoshop (for example editing text) and try again. |

> [!TIP]

> On Windows, Photoshop shortcuts may stop working after you click in the LayerWise panel. Click once on the canvas to get them back. It's a known Photoshop issue with panels like this one.
